Welcome to your guide for liposculpturing, a procedure which you may want to familiarize yourself with. However, please note that the information provided is in no way a substitute for your consultation with a qualified surgeon. In order to ensure a satisfying result, you can start to make note of any questions you want to ask during your visit.
Those who turn to liposuction (“lipoplasty”) often do so to improve their contour and remove fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, thighs, back, arms, chest, and neck. Ideal candidates for this surgery are in good physical and psychological health, at a normal weight, with firm, elastic skin, and realistic goals.
How will your liposculpture procedure be performed?
Liposculpturing is usually performed on an outpatient basis, and may last between 30 minutes to 4 hours, based on the amount of fat removed, number of areas treated, and technique used. The most common techniques include tumescent and ultrasound-assisted liposculpturing.
Tumescent LiposculpturingThe first step is to inject the treated area with a tumescent fluid (local, anesthetic, and adrenaline solution) through tiny access points. This can help numb the treated area, help control bleeding, and react with the fat to make it easier to remove. Using a blunt tubular instrument called a cannula, the fat is then suctioned to produce a more slender contour.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpturing or (UAL)Again, tumescent fluid is injected and then special probes that emit ultrasound energy react with the fat to liquefy it. The fat is literally melted by the ultrasound energy and the liquefied fat is then suctioned out through tiny incisions using a cannula.
Some suggestions to help you prepare for surgery: It is important for you be open and honest during you consultation. Be sure to provide all of your medical history and list all of the medications, vitamins, and herbs you are taking (even if you don’t think they’re important).
Here are some tips that may help you shorten your recovery time and decrease your chances of complications:
After your procedure, some bruising, swelling, and pain should be expected. Do not be alarmed if you feel like you’ve lost sensations in the areas treated; feeling and sensation should return to normal as your nerves begin to regenerate. Swelling should subside with several months, during which you will continue to notice an improved appearance. Although you will be prescribed with pain medication to control any discomfort, be sure to contact us if you begin to have severe pain.

Please note that the recovery process is different for everyone. Many patients may find that they are up and walking around within a few days. Drains will be placed in the treated areas in order to help remove excess tumescent fluid for the first day or two; you may experience blood-tinged fluid as well. Showering may be resumed on the second or third day following surgery.
Based on the severity of your procedure, work and regular activities should not be resumed for approximately 1 week. In addition, strenuous physical activities should be limited as the treated areas may remain very sensitive over the next 2 or 3 weeks. A special compassion garment may need to be worn for up to a month to help contour your treated areas. At this point, you may gradually return to activities such or lifting, exercise, and sex. Avoid any high impact activities such as jogging and bouncing activities for about four to six weeks. Following these steps can help you avoid stress to your treated areas and allow for your treated area to properly heal and recover. All liposculpturing procedures are performed using a small incision, about the length of this red line -----, so any scarring will be minimal and should fade over time.
Most patients see better results of their liposculpturing over the course of 6 weeks. As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle, your treated areas should look great and retain its sculptured appearance. However, weight gain will be seen in areas that were not treated.
